Field Trip to Fitz’s Bottling Company
Here’s a great field trip idea which has been getting high marks from area teachers. It’s a field trip to Fitz’s Bottling Company, and it combines a lot of fun for kids with some neat education:
- History of the Delmar Loop including important area buildings.
- History of root beer, in general and Fitz’s, specifically.
- How we make and bottle Fitz’s sodas including a view of our vintage bottling line in actual operation.
- An outside group activity featuring the St. Louis Walk of Fame called “Star Search”—students find famous St. Louisans on the Walk.
Schedule:
- Plan to arrive at Fitz’s between 9:30 and 9:45 am
- The introductory presentation lasts about 30-40 minutes
- Then, your students can observe the actual bottling operation through our viewing windows at their own pace.
- If you wish, your group may stay for lunch. We have a special fixed price menu offering a variety of meals, all of which are served fresh and quickly to even the largest group.
- The last activity, the “Star Search”, begins outside between 11:00 and 11:15. We’ll get you started, then your adult leaders will self direct.
- Most groups will be ready to return to school between 11:30 and noon.
Our discussion leaders have a great deal of flexibility and can modify the presentation to meet the needs of varying age groups. We have had successful presentations already -- 1st graders to high school students.
There is no charge, but reservations are a must. We do Field Trips on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays only.

Hope to see you at Fitz’s!
